Beer Of The Month – July

Pretty sure the Hop Cast crew is in love with summer. So far this summer has been filled with lots of bikes, beers, baseball and boats. Just being outside, hanging in someones backyard can bring a smile to your face. It sure beats those rough winter months here in Chicago where all you want to do is well, nothing. Most of the time we just grab a big stout from the cellar and hide in bed. During the summer, the adventure can last all day and night. That’s why for the July beer of the month we have picked Victory Brewing’s Summer Love. This 5.2% American Blonde Ale is excellent when you’re looking for something to help beat the heat. Hopefully you’re drinking outside in the backyard because the aroma of citrus and grassy hops should pair perfectly with that environment. There is a wonderful floral hop aroma that balances the whole thing out. Once you finally taste this beer, it’s hard to not enjoy yourself. It’s light, crisp and fruity and those hops add a slight tingle to your mouth. A bit more complex then your average blonde ale which makes you want to take another sip to see what you might of missed. Even if blonde ales aren’t something you usually enjoy, give this one a try on a hot day and at just under $10 for a six pack it won’t pinch the wallet either.

The 3rd Burger & Beer Pairing Event At SmallBar

It’s here, the third installment of the Man B Que / Hop Cast / SmallBar burger and beer pairing is right around the corner.

This month, the grilling geeks from Man B Que dig into their recipe arsenal and come up with The Godfather’s Honey Brie Burger which will be paired with the North Coast Prankqster. But one burger and beer pairing wasn’t enough for this event. Man B Que also has their Linus Burger #4 featuring Irish cheddar, jalepenos, and cumin which is paired with Victory Prima Pils. The beer brains at Hop Cast and SmallBar hand picked both of these beers for a perfect meat and beer combination.

$15 gets you all you can eat sliders and endless glasses of the two featured beers as well as a raffle ticket for your chance to win a “Picnic Pairing” goodie.

Stop by May 27th at 7:00 PM, and bring your friends!

Beer Of The Month – May

The weather is warming up and hopefully you’re out there enjoying it. There is something great about a refreshing beer after a long bike ride or run. Sure you could reach for a double IPA hop bomb but instead we would suggest a clean, light and refreshing Pilsener. That’s why for the month of May, the Hop Cast has picked the Prima Pils from Victory Brewing as the beer of the month.

When this beauty is poured out you are rewarded with a wonderful pale straw color with a thin white head that fades rather quickly. A pleasant, fresh, and grassy hop aroma drifts from the glass. There is also a hint of lemon along with clean malts and yeast. The taste is as clean and fresh as the aroma. Strong clean hops with a crisp bite. Nothing overly complex here, a slight malt sweetness to cut the dryness a tad. Before you know it, this golden German Pilsener is gone and you will be looking at an empty glass wanting another one. With an ABV of 5.3% this is a beer you can spot Brad and Ken drinking throughout the spring and summer and after you’ve had one, you’ll see why.
