This festival is held once a year and if you’ve seen the last couple years episodes, you know how great it is. This year it was at a new location in Bridgeport and it was a blast. Its always great to see so many friends and to see all the people excited for craft beer. This year Ken and Brad again attended both the day and night sessions, clocking in over 10 hours of drinking. The two of them took a few breaks from sampling these fine beers to talk with some great people like the folks from Solemn Oath, Avery and Pipeworks. They even managed to grab a few minutes with the man behind this festival, Pete Crowley.

HopCast Episode 165

Episode 165: A Discussion With Pete Crowley On Cellaring

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski sit down with Pete Crowley in the barrel room of Haymarket Pub & Brewery. After a long stout tasting with a group of friends the three of them recall some of their favorites and discuss the issues with cellaring beers. For them the stand out beers of the night were mainly the fresher or newer beers. Most of the cellaring didn’t improve the beers. Pete shares why cellaring your beers really isn’t the best idea for a lot of beers. Although they may age for five to ten years in the bottle you are going to lose some of the qualities that the brewer wanted to achieve when they first brewed the beer.

While cellaring beer can be a fun experiment, it doesn’t always produce great results. Cheers and thanks for watching the Hop Cast.

Hop Cast – Episode 128: Drinking and Writing

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are at Haymarket Pub & Brewery talking with Steve Mosqueda and Sean Benjamin about Drinking and Writing. Joining them on the Hop Cast is Jamie Budzick and head brewer at Haymarket, Pete Crowley. Steve and Sean created Drinking and Writing to preserve the spirit and devotion of the hard drinking writer and to uphold the rituals of their creativity and passion for the written word. Before Haymarket opened, Steve and Sean performed at pubs around the city. Pete offered them a home at Haymarket and now that they have a permanent location they have the freedom to do things they may not of been able to do before. Like having a special Christmas beer that Pete is brewing for their Christmas show in April. Drinking and Writing put on a great show and they are always changing so be sure to check out the Drinking and Writing website to see what they have coming up.

A Look At Haymarket Pub & Brewery – #7

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski are at Haymarket Pub & Brewery for one final look at the progress before Pete Crowley and John Neurauter open the doors. They have just a few more inspections left before the kitchen will be serving up food and the 48 taps will start pouring beer. The earliest you can expect to see doors open is the week of December 13th. But that’s sadly without house brewed beer, you’ll have to wait a few more weeks to taste some delicious Haymarket beer.  There was still some last minute construction going on so please forgive the audio quality in this update. Keep an eye out, you just might see Ken and Brad sitting at the bar when you come in during opening week.
