In Hop Cast episode 137 Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are hanging out at Finch’s Beer Company. Before talking with the team at Finch’s the two of them decided to open up a couple imperial stouts from a couple great breweries. They of course shared the stouts with everyone at Finch because these were some big beers and needed to be shared. The first one they open is the Black Betty from Nebraska Brewing. This beer was aged in Whiskey barrels and has an ABV of 9.0%. Sadly this bottle seemed to be infected. According to other reviews online this is supposed to be a great beer so its unfortunate that we had a bad bottle. After tasting the Black Betty they move onto the 10.2 % ABV Imperial Stout from Olde Hickory. This beer is rich and robust with deep notes of chocolate and espresso. Luckily this one wasn’t infected. But that’s always the risk when you are aging these beers in your cellar for years. Sometimes you end up with a great beer and other times you can get burned.
