Episode 207: ChurchKey

In episode 207 of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski are in Washington D.C. for the Craft Brewers Conference. Washington D.C. is a great beer town. One of the spots everyone recommends going to is ChurchKey. So, of course you have to listen to the locals… and it was fantastic! The team even found themselves there a couple nights in a row.

One of those times, Ken and Brad were able to meet up with Greg Engert to chat about what their doing at ChurchKey, not just during the Craft Brewers Conference but also year round.

If you are visiting Washington D.C., ChurchKey should definitely be a stop on your beer adventure. They are doing some great things and have some fantastic food.

HopCast Episode 202

Episode 202: Off Color Brewing

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder were able to catch up with John Laffler and Dave Bleitner during the Off Color Brewing presents Mischief at Black Rock. This event was the debut for Off Color Brewing. On tap were 4 collaboration beers that they brewed with friends around Chicago.

It’s an exciting time for craft beer in the city of Chicago and Off Color Brewing is planting their flag. This was a truly unique event with the 4 collaboration beers, a great guest tap list, Jell-O shots and beer cocktails.

In this episode, John talks about the plans for the brewery and the goal to initially launch with two, year round beers that they hope everyone is going to enjoy. With the intention that at Off Color, they will approach beer with an avant-grade mindset.

The brewery is coming together and they should be ready to start brewing soon. If you didn’t make it to the pop-up shop event, you’re going to have to wait a little longer before you get to try Off Color beers.

HopCast Episode 187

Episode 187: Dryhop

It’s great to see so many new breweries opening in Chicago. In episode 187 of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski check out one of the newest ones getting close to opening; Dryhop. Ken and Brad got a chance to chat with owner Greg Shuff and head brewer Brant DubovickDryhop is planning to open in Lakeview early in 2013; right now the space is totally empty but the guys plan on going forward fast. You can try some of Brant’s beers right now because he’s been busy doing collaboration brews with some of the other brewpubs in Chicago like Haymarket Pub and Atlas. Be sure to seek out those collaboration beers out to help hold you over until their opening this winter.

HopCast Episode 105

Episode 105: Pop! Fest

In episode 105 Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski are back in the suburbs of Chicago. This time they are at Rock Bottom Warrenville for Pop! Fest. Pop! Fest was the brain child of brewer Davin Bartosch who decided to unleash the world’s first popcorn malt liquor. Rather than only having this one beer on draft he decided to have an event and invite other local brewers to bring a beer to be paired with popcorn. Many local breweries brought different styles of beer that were paired with one of the many flavors that Popcorn Palace’s gourmet popcorn offers.

If you live in the area be sure to make it out to Rock Bottom Warrenville to try this uniquely brewed beer.

Hop Cast – Episode 61

In this episode of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski put down their beer to talk with the boozehound Kyle McHugh. Kyle McHugh helped to start up the boutique liquor store Drinks Over Dearborn. The shop is warm, intimate and very inviting especially for a couple beer lovers like Ken and Brad. Drinks Over Dearborn is located on the second floor at 650 N Dearborn Street. You will have to be buzzed up to enter but don’t let that turn you away because your are not likely to be disappointed with what they have to over. Besides their excellent selection of beers, one of Drinks Over Dearborn’s greatest feature is the ability to mix and match beers to create your own six pack. Even if you aren’t in the mood for a six pack you can even just walk out with one 12 oz bottle. Kyle is very knowledgeable in all things drink related and is more they happy to help you to find something that you are likely to enjoy.
