Episode 154: Cincinnatus and Olde Rabbit’s Foot

In episode 154 Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are sipping on a couple tasty bourbon barrel beers. First up is the Cincinnatus from Listermann Brewing. This guy backs a ton of flavor for a 9.5% stout. The bourbon really comes through more like something you’d expect from a larger ABV beer. Overall quite enjoyable, but that bourbon lingers and turns into quite a sipper. Brad and Ken then follow up the Cincinnatus with the three way collaboration that is Olde Rabbit’s Foot. This beer is from three breweries in North Carolina; Old Hickory, Duck-Rabbit and Foothills. In the past there have been issues with a few bad bottles of Olde Rabbit’s Foot but this one was tasting pretty good. Both Brad and Ken would recommend opening up a bottle if you have one in the cellar.

Hop Cast – Episode 45

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are at it again with episode 45 of the Hop Cast. This time the two of them are joined by Aggie Gilmore. Aggie said her favorite style of beer is the stout, so Brad went down to the cellar and pulled out a couple Russian Imperial goodies for them to try. Russian Imperial Stouts aren’t usually what you may reach for on a warm summer day but Brad, Ken and Aggie go for it anyway. The first beer they sample and review is the Rabid Duck from the fine folks at Duck-Rabbit. Duck-Rabbit it out in North Carolina and this Russian Imperial Stout comes in at a big 10%. They follow up the Duck-Rabbit with a Happy Ending. Sweetwater is no stranger to the Hop Cast. Brad & Ken have enjoyed pretty much everything they’ve been able to get their hands on from this brewery in the ATL.

Goose Island’s Night Stalker

Ken and I were at the Goose Island Clybourn Brewpub for the release of Night Stalker and the monthly beer swap. The Night Stalker is part of Goose Islands new Fulton Wood Series coming in at an ABV of 11.7% and 60 IBU’s. If you’re a fan of the famous Bourbon County Stout then the Night Stalker is something you’re going to want to check out. Next to the Night Stalker tap they also had Summertime as well, which is a solid beer but nothing amazing. But what was very interesting was they were doing blends of the NNight Stalker and the Summertime. The blend was super interesting and made the already drinkable Night Stalker even more so. Since the Night Stalker was being released, the beer swaps theme was porters and stouts; the idea was that you bring a stout or porter to share. A huge stand out of the night was the Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter someone brought to share. Overall this past Thursday’s beer swap was a blast. Shout outs to all the great people we had a chance to chat with including Jonathan Surratt of Draft Magazine & beermapping.com, P.J. Fisher the event coordinator at Goose Island and Randy Mosher. See everyone at the next event.
