Episode 191: Tyranena BGW The Devil Made Me Do It & New Belgium Imperial Coffee Chocolate Stout

In episode 191 of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski are joined by Jack Danger for some tasty coffee beers and some delicious apple pie. The first beer the three of them open is The Devil Made Me Do It from Tyranena’s Brewers Gone Wild series. This 7.5% ABV Porter is a big ol’ black beer with oatmeal silkiness and an intense coffee aroma that any coffee lover is going to love. This coffee beer makes for an excellent choice to go with your apple pie this Thanksgiving. Next they move on to the New Belgium Imperial Coffee Chocolate Stout. This 10% ABV Imperial Stout is the first stout New Belgium has brewed which was very surprising for us to find out. Of course New Belgium does it right and this beer is delicious.

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful holiday season. Cheers and thanks for watching the Hop Cast.

HopCast Episode 152

Episode 152: Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are doing another vertical tasting in episode 152. This time they visit three years of Terrapin’s Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout. It was fantastic to get to try three years of this beer, big thanks for Donald Monroe for sending them to us. Each year proved to be very different then the other and shows that when you’re cellaring your beers you don’t always know what you’re going to get. If you live in an area of the country that Terrapin distributes, make sure you grab one of these up.

Hop Cast – Episode 81

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski were invited over to Goose Island Clybourn for a special coffee tasting with Crop To Cup Coffee. The new head brewer at Goose Island Clybourn, Jared Rouben has some really great things in the works and this is just one of them. Goose Island is taking their Liquid Inspiration Stout and combining it with different infusions of Crop To Cup Coffee and various spices. Some of the varieties already seen on tap since we recorded this episode a few weeks ago at the brewpub involve lemon, vanilla and peppercorn. These seem to be going incredibly fast and you can usually find a new one at least once a week. So head down to Goose Island Clybourn and try the latest coffee and Liquid Inspiration Stout.

Hop Cast – Episode 69

In episode 69 of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski reach for a morning beer rather than their typical morning coffee. The first beer they crack open is the Coffee Bender from Surly Brewing in Minnesota. The Coffee Bender is an American Brown Ale and has an ABV of 5.10%. Both Ken and Brad need at least two cups of coffee in the morning so they follow up the Coffee Bender with the Java Head Stout from Pennsylvania brewery, Tröegs. The Java Head is an Oatmeal Stout and has an ABV of 7.50%. Both of these beers are great coffee beers but the Coffee Bender packed more of a coffee flavor then the Java Head Stout. Don’t expect to get your caffeine from beer, the level of caffeine is rather low in just about all the coffee beers.
