Episode 215: Rodenback 2010 Vintage Oak Aged Ale & Manhattan NW

Rick Wildt joins Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski in episode 215 of the Hop Cast. The guys crack open a couple of funky beers in this episode. The first being the Rodenbach 2010 Vintage Oak Aged Ale. This Flanders Red Ale comes in at 7.0% ABV and is light with an effervescent carbonation that’s tart and somewhat dry. Many of you’ll be familiar with the Grand Cru from Rodenbach but the oak here really adds something extra. If you can find a bottle and can handle the steep price tag, it’s worth picking up. Next up, Ken, Brad & Rick open the Cascade Brewing’s Manhattan NW. This bottle was one Brad and Maeve picked up from their recent trip to Portland and smuggled across state lines. As the name suggests this is Manhattan inspired; a sour ale aged in bourbon barrels with cherries and Noyaux. The Manhattan NW comes in at 11.5% ABV so even with how tasty it is you should share with friends.

Cheers and thanks for watching the Hop Cast.

Episode 123: Ska Sour & Cascade Bourdonic Plague

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder are getting funky and sour in episode 123 of the Hop Cast. Joined with them on this taste bud adventure are special guests Charlie Drews and Greer Davis. Both of whom are big fans of sour beers, so this episode is perfect for them. The first beer the four of them open is the Ska Brewing Ska Sour, an American Wild Ale that was only brewed once. This was a rare find since in Chicago we don’t see much from Ska besides the standard cans. They follow up the Ska Sour with a beer Brad picked up in Portland, Or.  The Cascade Bourbonic Plague another American Wild Ale packing a huge punch at 11.5% ABV. Cascade makes some killer sour beers and this one doesn’t disappoint.

Brad and Ken thank you for the continued support of the Hop Cast. Thank You for watching.
