Episode 241: Saison De Wench & De Proefbrouwerij Fifth Star

In episode 241 of the Hop CastBrad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder open a couple different Saisons. First up is one that The Beer Wench sent us from Bison Brewing. Saison De Wench is a 6.0% ABV botanically-inspired tribute to the beer wench. It has been years since Ashley joined Brad and Ken on the Hop Cast so having her beer is the next best thing. Next up is the De Proefbrouwerij Fifth Star, a 6.5% ABV Raspberry Rye Saison with Brettanomyces. De Proef partnered with Windy City Distributing to create this exceptional Raspberry Rye Saison for the 2014 Chicago Craft Beer Week.

During these warm summer days a refreshing Saison is a great way to keep cool.

HopCast Episode 180

Episode 180: Organic Beer

In episode 180 of the Hop Cast, Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski go green. Ken and Brad have three beers they are tasting in this episode so it’s a lot to cover in a short amount of time. First up is a beer that they both have heard great things about for awhile, the Honey Basil from Bison Brew. This beer is infused with organic honey for its aromatic sweetness and fresh organic basil to lend a slight herbal note. After the Honey Basil Ken and Brad open an organic German Pilsner from Brauerei Pinkus Mueller. This 5.2 % ABV beer is very refreshing and perfect for these hot summer days. For the final beer in this episode Ken and Brad go a little darker and open a Munich Dunkel Lager. The Lammsbräu Organic Dunkel is in your classic green bottle so it’s can be worrisome that you might get a bad beer. This wasn’t the case here. This might not be what you’re expecting but it’s awesome to see an organic beer in this style. All of these Organic beers are home runs!

Episode 131: Bison Brewing

While in San Francisco for the Craft Brewers Conference, Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder had a chance to sit down with Daniel Del Grande from Bison Brewing. Daniel is the perfect guest to have on for the first episode of April since it is organic beer month. The three of them sample four different beers from Bison Brewing; the Imperial Brown, Chocolate Stout, Belgian-Style Scotch Ale and an IPA. Bison is an all organic brewery and is working hard to push the benefits of using organic products. Daniel expains why he chose to go organic and how the beer community can make just as quality a product with organic ingredients.
