Episode 270: Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale & Brickstone Pale Ale

Welcome to the Hop Cast, where Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder share their love of craft beer with the world.

On episode 270 of the Hop Cast, Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder reach for a couple cans of Pale Ales. The first can the guys open up is Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale from the Crazy Mountain Brewing Company. This 6.0% ABV American Pale Ale isn’t what many of us have grown to expect from our Pale Ales lately. Typically they are aggressively hopped but the Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale isn’t that crazy. Instead this beer is very light and sweet. Following up this Colorado Pale Ale the guys move onto an APA from a local brewery. The BrickStone Restaurant & Brewery’s Pale Ale does have that punch of hops that many of us have come to expect from our APAs. Coming in at 6.25 % ABV this beer is very easy to drink and before you know it, you’re already onto your second can. Over the years BrickStone has been making some great beers and winning a number of awards, it’s one of the places that is worth a visit if you’re looking for something outside Chicago.

Cheers & thanks for watching the Hop Cast!

HopCast Episode 249

Episode 249: Penrose Brewing P2 & Southern Tier 2XONE

Hey Craft Beer fans, it’s time for a new episode of the Hop Cast. In episode 249, Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder open up a couple Pale Ales. First up is the P2, a 5.54% ABV Belgian Pale Ale from our good friends at Penrose Brewing. This has been a go to beer for Brad and Ken lately; it’s juicy, finishes dry and is very easy to drink. Next Brad and Ken move onto the 2XONE, a 8.1% ABV American Pale Ale. It’s been awhile since we’ve had anything from Southern Tier Brewing Company on the Hop Cast and this was a nice treat. They are a fantastic brewery, making some great beer. These 2 beers were both pretty different which shows how varied and vast the Pale Ale category can be.

Cheers and thanks for watching and supporting the Hop Cast.

HopCast Episode 179

Episode 179: Lazy Magnolia Brewing Deep South Pale & Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale

Episode 179 of the Hop Cast features a couple beers Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder haven’t heard much about since the beers aren’t available in Chicago. Lazy Magnolia was Mississippi’s first package brewery since Prohibition. Guess everyone in Mississippi must have been drinking all the beer so there wan’t a need to ship it out of state. It’s great to see Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company being the first and helping get more craft beer into peoples hands. The first beer Brad and Ken open is the Deep South Pale Ale. The Deep South Pale Ale is a 5.21 % that’s very well balanced. Not your typical hopped up Pale Ale that we tend to see on the shelves these days. This is a great year round beer that might not be right for a 100 degree day but for any other occasion, works just fine. Following up the Deep South Pale Ale is the World Beer Cup winner, Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale. This 4.39 % ABV English Brown Ale isn’t as an extreme flavor as you’re expect. It’s not your Winter Warmer backed with heavy roast and spice. Instead the pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. Both of these beers were tasty and should be able to be enjoyed by the beer nerds out there or first time craft beer drinkers.

Cheers and thanks for watching the Hop Cast.
