Beer Of The Month – July

Little Sumpin'

Hopefully everyone was able to get their hands on Half Acre’s Daisy Cutter Pale the Hop Cast June beer of the month. For July, the Hop Cast has picked The Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale from Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, California as the beer of the month. If you’re a fan of Three Floyds Gumballhead then this is right up your alley, or at least a great step into the world of IPAs. You should be able pick up the Little Sumpin’ at most places that sell other Lagunitas products. At 7.7% this is just the Little Sumpin’ we’ll need to kick the summer into full swing. It should pour a rich bronze color. There’s a small one finger white head that disappears fairly quickly. The aroma is very hoppy with some great pine and grapefruit notes that hit you in the face. Candied sweet malts come through as well. Tastes of citrus, floral, pine and a touch of toasted grain, fill the mouth with a light sweet caramel to round it all out in the finish. With the wheat adding a good body without killing the bitterness too much. The Little Sumpin’ has a great balance to it. This guy is dangerously drinkable. At 7.7% the high abv isn’t very noticeable and could sneak up on you quickly.
