HopCast Episode 226

Episode 226: Holiday Spice Lager Beer & Santa Vs. Unicorn

The holidays are here and Christmas is… well days away. In episode 226 Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder show you the true meaning of the season, sharing alcoholic beverages. Under the tree they sample a couple of big beers. First up is the 9.4% ABV Holiday Spice Lager Beer from Lakefront Brewery, yes.. a 9% lager!. This is a spice beer brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, orange peel, and clover honey. Next Brad and Ken open up a new one from Pipeworks Brewing Company, the Santa Vs. Unicorn. This is a 10.00 % ABV American Barleywine or maybe an Imperial Red Ale… or whatever you want it to be, either way it’s another tasty one from Pipeworks.

Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder would like to wish everyone who watches the Hop Cast a happy and safe holiday!

HopCast Episode 225

Episode 225: Long Hammer IPA & Ipswich I.P.A.

It’s time for the Hop Cast to dive into a couple IPAs. In episode 225, Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder open a couple IPA’s that have been around for a while that you might have overlooked.

The first one they open is the Long Hammer IPA, a 6.2% ABV beer from Redhook Ale Brewery. The generous addition of hops both during and at the end gives this India Pale Ale its bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor. This was the first time we’ve grabbed this beer in the can and it was tasty. Next up is the 6.5% Ipswich Ale Brewery India Pale Ale (I.P.A.). Brad and Ken were both a bit disappointed with this one and wish there had been a date code on the bottle because there is a good chance it’s been on the shelves too long. Hopefully, they’ll get a chance to try this one fresh one day. It’s easy to get blinded by those new and big IPAs that hit the shelves but don’t overlook some of the ones you’ve seen for years… it might be time to revisit them.

Cheers and thanks for watching the Hop Cast!
