Hop Cast – Episode 146: De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Delphine & Mocha Bomb

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski have pulled out a couple De Struise Brouwers beers from the cellar. To start things off they open the De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Delphine. This 13 % ABV Russian Imperial Stout was a treat to try since it’s rarely seen here in the states. The second De Struise Brouwers beer they open is the Black Damnation II – Mocha Bomb. This 12% Imperial Stout is in the Black Damnation series, one of a dozen different beers using Black Albert. This one contains 50% of Black Albert that was matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. Also 25% of Hel & Verdoemenis was also used after being aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was also used. It was great to try the Mocha Bomb after sampling the Cuvee Delphine, it brought a bit more insight into what was involved in the creation of this beer. If you do get a chance to try the Mocha Bomb we’d recommend doing it along side the Black Albert and Cuvee Delphine.

Hop Cast – Episode 145: Brooklyn Sorachi Ace & Port Brewing La Cruda

It’s an east coast, west coast beer face off in episode 145 of the Hop Cast. Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski sample a couple different beers from different ends of the United States. First up is the Sorachi Ace, a great saison from Brooklyn Brewery. This 7.6 % ABV saison features the rare Japanese developed hop, Sorachi Ace. If you see one of these bottles, don’t hesitate, it’s well worth the price tag. Next Ken and Brad move onto the La Cruda from Port Brewing. This 6.7 % ABV American porter was brewed to commemorate the Makanudo Porter from the startup San Diego brewery Cerveccerias La Cruda where Tomme & Troy got their start. Another fantastic beer. Both the east coast and the west coast delivered some great brews but the real winners are Ken and Brad since they got to drink them.

Hop Cast – Episode 144: SAVOR Flowers & Portamarillo

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski get to sample a couple harder to find beers from Dogfish Head in episode 144. The first one they open is the SAVOR Flowers. This beer was a collaboration with Dogfish Head and Samuel Adams for the SAVOR American craft beer & food event in D.C. The SAVOR Flowers was made with rosewater, rosebuds, jasmine, hibiscus, lavender, a specialty hop known only as #369, then aged in oak barrels. Ken and Brad then move onto their next beer, Portamarillo an American Porter from Dogfish Head and Epic Brewing. Many of you might of seen this beer being brewed in the Discovery show Brewmasters. These beers are unique and are very different from each other; once again showcasing Dogfish Head’s incredible range as a brewery. It was a rare treat to sample of both these on the Hop Cast. So thank you to the ones that hooked it up with these two wonderful brews. And thank you for watching the Hop Cast.
