Hop Cast – Episode 162: Hair Of The Dog Doggie Claws

In episode 162 of the Hop Cast Brad Chmielewski and Ken Hunnemeder dig deep into Brad’s cellar and pull out 10 years of Doggie Claws from Hair Of The Dog. This 11.5 % ABV Barleywine was first first brewed by the Portland brewery, Hair of the Dog in 2001. Brad didn’t have a bottle of that very first years Doggie Claws but the ten years start at 2002 and move up to the most current release from this past holiday. It was great to see how this beer changed over time and to speculate on how the recipe might have been adjusted from year to year. If you’re hiding any bottles in your cellar for that special occasion, you’ll see that we didn’t come across any major issues with any of the years which was pretty surprising and amazing for such a big vertical.

Hope you enjoy this very special episode and thanks for watching the Hop Cast.

A Look At Haymarket Pub & Brewery – #7

Ken Hunnemeder and Brad Chmielewski are at Haymarket Pub & Brewery for one final look at the progress before Pete Crowley and John Neurauter open the doors. They have just a few more inspections left before the kitchen will be serving up food and the 48 taps will start pouring beer. The earliest you can expect to see doors open is the week of December 13th. But that’s sadly without house brewed beer, you’ll have to wait a few more weeks to taste some delicious Haymarket beer.  There was still some last minute construction going on so please forgive the audio quality in this update. Keep an eye out, you just might see Ken and Brad sitting at the bar when you come in during opening week.

Hop Cast – Bike The Breweries 2010

The first Hop Cast’s Bike The Breweries was a huge success. We biked 16.5 miles and stopped at 10 Chicago breweries over the course of about 10 hours. Thank you to everyone that game out and enjoyed the day with us. We had a group of about 40 great people at one point and by the end of it we finished at Revolution Brewing with about 15.

With the success of this ride we are already looking forward to another ride next year so if you missed this one hopefully you can make it to the next one. As always thanks for watching the Hop Cast.
